Wednesday night featured yet another improbable Mets victory.
New York was down 3-2 in the bottom of the tenth inning, but the Indians reliever failed to cover first base on a possible double play, which allowed the Mets to tie the game. Then, two batters later, J.D. Davis ripped a single to left field to send the fans home happy via another walk-off win.
Despite the jubilation after the game, there could be some concern about Marcus Stroman, who started but had to exit after four innings of play.
Stroman was dealing with hamstring tightness. The Mets' bullpen took over and performed admirably, only giving up two earned runs over six innings.
After the game, Mickey Callaway told the press that he wasn't too concerned with Stroman's injury.
"Stroman got checked out, got an MRI and we're not concerned at this point," said Callaway. "We'll have to check on him in the morning, but it's not concerning at this point. It's tightness."
Callaway's words will be a relief to Mets fans, but one can never be too certain about how minor an injury with this team is. The Mets have been burned before, including by Jed Lowrie this season, who was supposedly only going to be out for a little while.
Stroman spoke on Thursday and also seemed unconcerned with the injury, assuring reporters that he would make his next start for the Mets next week.
The Long Island native hasn't really struggled, but he also hasn't shown his best stuff since the team acquired him from the Blue Jays before the trade deadline. Overall, he's 7-11 with a 3.18 ERA in 2019.
