Marcus Stroman Responds To Brian Cashman Slight With Twitter Graphic

Buried deep in a Yahoo feature on Brian Cashman this week was an interesting revelation that the Yankees general manager had lukewarm feelings about pitcher Marcus Stroman at the trade deadline.

The Yanks discussed with the Toronto Blue Jays acquiring the right-handed pitcher. The Blue Jays demanded young outfielder Clint Frazier in the deal, which Cashman apparently balked at.

“We were interested in Stroman but we didn’t think he would be a difference-maker,” he said. “We felt he would be in our bullpen in the postseason.”

Stroman, who was surprisingly traded to the Mets in July, got wind of the comment and posted a professional-looking graphic on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon that compared his numbers to the Yankees' starting pitchers this season.

Starting pitching was clearly the Yankees' biggest weakness around the trade deadline, and despite being in talks for several starters, Cashman did not pull the trigger on a deal. The Bombers' rotation has been better over the second half but was dealt a major blow last week when 18-game winner Domingo German was placed on administrative leave amid a domestic violence investigation. He is not expected to pitch again in 2019.

There was a time when it appeared Stroman wanted to become a Yankee. Asked in June about the trade speculation linking him to the Bombers, Stroman said, "I'm built for the bright lights and the moment." And after Stroman was dealt to the Mets, his father told Newsday, "He was hoping it was the Yankees a little bit."
