Mets Executive Allard Baird A Candidate For Red Sox President Gig

Mets executive Allard Baird is likely to be highly sought after this offseason.

The Red Sox will reportedly give a "long look" into Baird, the Mets' vice president, to potentially replace Dave Dombrowski as the team's president of baseball operations, according to The Boston Globe's Peter Abraham. Dombrowski was fired in September, ending his five-year run with the club that included one World Series victory.

The Globe's report listed Baird's previous experience and relationship with Red Sox Owner John Henry and Chairman Tom Werner as the speculation on Baird possible departure from the Mets. Baird initially joined the Red Sox in 2006, where he served as an assistant to then-General Manager Theo Epstein. He rose within the ranks in Boston's front office earning titles such as the team's vice president as well as director of professional scouting.

After a nearly 12-year stint with the Red Sox, Baird joined Mets General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen in New York last offseason. He was brought into the organization due to his vast experience and to help solidify the Mets front office. Along with his VP duties, Baird is currently listed as the Mets' assistant general manager of scouting and player development.

"The leadership and the vision that Brodie has for this organization as a whole really played into this," Baird told reporters last November via Newsday, following his hiring. "My belief in Brodie is why I'm here and excited to be here."

Abraham lists Baird as one of many possible candidates the Red Sox could choose to replace Dombrowski. Baird, once the Kansas City Royals GM, appears as one of the front-runners in the process, but Abraham says the Red Sox "will hire from an outside organization."
