The Mets are in sell mode.
WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman reported Tuesday that the Mets are "committed sellers now," but added the team doesn't believe it can do a total rebuild.
Right-hander Noah Syndergaard is coveted by "many teams," including the Yankees, but is unlikely to be dealt before the July 31 trade deadline, Heyman reported.
Meanwhile, the Mets are hoping that one good start by righty Zack Wheeler will boost his trade value after he was placed on the 10-day injured list last week with a shoulder issue. He is expected to return to the Mets' rotation Friday.
After losing three of four to the San Francisco Giants, the Mets are 45-54 and seven games out of first place for both the NL East lead and the second wild-card spot.
Other Mets who are in the final years of their contracts and could be shopped around are third baseman Todd Frazier, infielder Adeiny Hechavarria, outfielder Juan Lagares and reliever Luis Avilan.
