Mets minor leaguer Tim Tebow is now a married man.
Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters announced on social media that they had been married during a ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa.
The former Miss Universe (who is from South Africa) and Tebow were engaged back in January, and now they have tied the knot about a year later. Tebow told People more about their wedding.
"I want the vows to be perfect," said Tebow. "I'm leaving in the traditional things like 'till death do us part,' but I'm also adding some of my own things to it."
Tebow, who is 32-years-old, is still playing his baseball in the Mets' minor-league system. He switched to playing professional baseball in 2016 after an up-and-down NFL career eventually resulted in him being completely out of the league.
His NFL career didn't work out, and his baseball career hasn't yet either. Tebow spent 2019 as a member of the Triple-A Syracuse Mets, where he primarly played as a left fielder and as a designated hitter. His season was cut short after he had to get eight stitches in his pinky finger in July.
He will likely get another invite to 2020 spring training in Florida, but his future is unclear after that. It seems unlikely that Tebow will ever be good enough to produce on a major league roster, especially one with as much hitting talent as the Mets have.
