SEE IT: Mets Mic'd Up During Spring Training Game: 'You Know Sign Language?'

Mets utilityman Dominic Smith stepped up to the plate at spring training on Wednesday.

Smith, finding the balance between baseball player and showman, sent Cardinals pitcher Jack Flaherty's pitch towering towards left field, which fell short of clearing the fence. The heckling that followed shortly after didn't come from those in the stands at Clover Park, the Mets' spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, FL, but instead from fellow teammate J.D. Davis.

"Hey kid, if you weren't so skinny maybe that would've gone out!" Davis said on ESPN's broadcast, as various different Mets players were mic'd up for their game against the Cardinals.

ESPN made it possible for viewers to listen in on everything that's being said on the field as part of its "All Access Afternoon." Cubs sluggers Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant showed off their sense of humor with their on Monday, notably calling out the Astros.

Smith, Davis and a handful of other Mets didn't disappoint when it was their turn on the mic.

After first baseman Pete Alonso made a diving play, Davis, ruled out due to a shoulder injury, acknowledged, "that's one dirty Polar Bear." From F-bombs to Jeff McNeil's rescue dog, Willow, there was nothing off limits.

Like most technological devices, however, they're subject to errors and malfunctions.

During the fifth inning, Smith, arguably the most talkative Met throughout the afternoon, lost the ability to hear ESPN's Eduardo Perez in the broadcast booth. As the broadcast shifted to a serious conversation with Davis, Smith unknowingly interjected.

"I can't hear anything!," Smith exclaimed. "Jeff, you know sign language?"
