Jets defensive end Henry Anderson is considered week to week after suffering a shoulder injury in the team's 31-6 loss to the Eagles.
Anderson reportedly sustained a sprained AC joint, according to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta. The injury occured during the Eagles' first drive in the opening quarter, where Philadelphia ultimately capitalized on the depleted Jets' defense, scoring on the 11-play drive. Anderson would not return for the rest of the contest.
The time frame to recover from a sprained AC joint is typically 1-6 weeks depending on the severity of the injury, according to the Hospital for Special Surgery. It's a crucial loss for Anderson, who played in all 16 games and recorded seven sacks last season — a career best.
Jets Head Coach Adam Gase revealed Monday that Anderson will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis as he begins to recover from the injury. Anderson is likely to miss the Jets' upcoming tilt with the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 13.
"Right now, it's a week to week deal," Gase told reporters on a conference call. "Just going to have to see how he feels. Just seeing him walking around today, he's obviously in pain. It's going to be about how does he feel as we go through the week. If he doesn't feel as though he can go out and perform at the level he needs to perform at then we'll lose the game."
Anderson's injury is the latest hit the Jets defense has taken this season. CJ Mosley, after signing with the team in free agency, has appeared in only one game as he deals with a nagging groin injury he suffered against the Bills in Week 1. Gase believes that the team's offseason investment is nearing a return to the field, but unsure if he'll be ready for the Cowboys.
“I think we’re close," Gase told reporters. "I’m just not sure how close we are."
