The New York Jets placed cornerback Trumaine Johnson on injured reserve Tuesday afternoon.
Johnson has been sidelined with a lingering injury to both ankles, which he sustained in the Jets' loss to Jacksonville. He was initially ruled questionable to return, but instead sat out for the remainder of the contest and missed last week's game against Miami.
Johnson tallied one interception and 25 tackles in seven games at the time of his injury. Jets general manager Joe Douglas has a decision to make when deciding Johnson's future with the Jets.
Douglas reportedly showed interest in dealing Johnson at last month's trade deadline. The Jets would have liked to trade Johnson, but his salary created minimal interest from suitors, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Johnson's injury is the latest hit taken by the Jets' defense. Linebacker Blake Cashman landed on IR and is out for the season with a shoulder injury. Wide receiver Josh Bellamy (shoulder) was also placed on IR along with Johnson.
