Report: Minaya To Serve As Top Adviser To Van Wagenen; Ricco And Ricciardi Also Wanted Back

Omar Minaya will reportedly serve as a top adviser to new Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen.

Meanwhile, John Ricco and J.P. Ricciardi have been told they are also wanted back in the team's front office, the New York Post's Mike Puma reported Thursday, adding on Twitter, "It's their call if they return."

It's not immediately clear what Minaya's job title will be. He served as a special assistant to the GM last season. He will provide extensive experience on agent-turned-GM Van Wagenen's staff.

Minaya, who turns 60 next week, was the Mets' general manager from 2005-10, a tenure that included a 2006 run to the NLCS.

From September 1997 to February 2002, Minaya was the Mets' senior assistant GM who oversaw the international scouting department. He then spent two seasons as vice president and general manager of the Montreal Expos, becoming baseball’s first Hispanic GM.

Minaya also was the Padres' senior vice president of baseball operations from December 2011 until January 2015 and served as a senior adviser to MLB Players Association executive director Tony Clark.

Ricco was the Mets' assistant general manager since 2006. Ricciardi has served as a special assistant to the general manager since November 2010. Ricco and Ricciardi, along with Minaya, split the Mets' GM duties after Sandy Alderson went on medical leave in June to focus on his battle with cancer.
