If you’re one of those that finds the “we have 27 rings!” argument of Yankees fans tiresome and/or answers back with “none since 2009,” well, you’re either going to love or hate Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez’s comments after the Bombers completed a four-game sweep of the Sox Monday night.
The Yankees’ 6-3 win over Boston on Monday gave the Bombers their 11th straight win over the Sox at Yankee Stadium, and since winning Games 3 and 4 of the 2018 ALDS in the Bronx, Boston is 5-21 overall against the Yankees, including a 1-15 mark at Yankee Stadium that is punctuated by a seven-game sweep for the Yankees in 2020.
And yet, the backstop for the now AL-worst Sox still had shade to throw at the pinstripers.
Boston has also won two World Series titles since the Yankees last won in 2009, but Vazquez wasn’t on the team in 2013 and, after slashing .333/.400/.667 in the 2018 ALDS, he was 5-for-28 (.179) with no walks and one extra-base hit (a double) in the ALCS and World Series.
Vazquez also hasn’t really helped his team’s cause in New York this season, slashing .222/.222/.259 in Boston’s seven games in the Bronx.
