Kawhi Leonard is in the midst of leading the Raptors in a tremendous effort against the Warriors in the NBA Finals, but that hasn’t stopped the speculation about his future after this season.

Champion again or not, Leonard is about to become a free agent. He has often been linked with a return back to Southern California, where he is originally from, but that hasn’t stopped the Knicks from dreaming about attracting him to New York.

According to a report from the New York Post, the Knicks are confident of at least having a meeting with Leonard when he does begin to explore his free agency.

New York has room to sign two max free agents this summer, but Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have been the two players most heavily linked with a move to Madison Square Garden. Still, if Leonard is available, the Knicks would be foolish to not pursue him. The 27-year-old is showing himself to be one of the best basketball players on the planet, as he had led Toronto through the Eastern Conference and to the brink of ending one of the strongest dynasties the NBA has ever seen.

Leonard may opt for a homecoming to California, or he could decide to stay with a Raptors team that might be champions when all is said and done. The Knicks might as well get a meeting with the notoriously-quiet Leonard to see what he’s thinking, even if it is a longshot that he would want to swap the best team in the league for the worst team in the league.

Leonard was selected to the All-NBA second team in his first season in Toronto. He is averaging an impressive 30.9 points per game in the playoffs so far.

The Raptors and Leonard will try to take a commanding 3-1 lead on the Warriors on Friday night in Oakland.
