Phillies manager Gabe Kapler isn't ruling out that his team might retaliate after two Mets pitches sailed near the head of outfielder Rhys Hoskins on Tuesday night.
The pitches by Jacob Rhame came with two outs in the ninth inning of a game the Mets were winning 9-0.
After one close call, Hoskins stepped toward the mound and stared down Rhame and the benches cleared, but the situation never escalated into a brawl. Hoskins also had words for catcher Travis d'Arnaud after ball four buzzed past his head.
Rhame insisted after the game he was just trying to pitch Hoskins inside and a couple of balls got away from him.

"Everybody can draw their own conclusions," he said. "From our perspective, it didn't seem like there was any way that ball could have just gotten away from Jacob Rhame."
When asked if the Phillies might retaliate, Kapler said the team will discuss how it wants to handle the situation.
"Those are matters that are handled internally. We don't talk about those publicly."
The Mets and Phillies meet again Wednesday night at Citi Field.
After Tuesday's game, Hoskins said he, too, thought Rhame threw at him intentionally. He suggested the fact that the Mets' Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso were plunked in back-to-back at-bats Monday night could have had something to do with it.
"They got hit a couple of times yesterday," he said. "He (Rhame) didn't miss up and in or out and up to a lefty the rest of the inning. I'll let you decide"
