BOSTON (WFAN) -- The Villanova Wildcats are going to the Final Four for the second time in three years.

Led by Jalen Brunson's 15 points, No. 1 seed Villanova had five players score in double figures as it defeated third-seeded Texas Tech 71-59 to win the NCAA tournament's East Region on Sunday.

The Wildcats (34-4) fell behind 9-1 to start the game, but aided by a 20-6 run, they powered their way to a 20-point first-half advantage. The Red Raiders (27-10) chipped away at that lead and trailed just 59-53 with 2:12 to play, but Villanova answered by shooting 10-of-10 from the free-throw line down the stretch.

Villanova won despite being held to a season-low 33.3 percent shooting.

"Wasn't really a pretty offensive game, but we played pretty good defensively, too," Villanova coach Jay Wright said. "That's why I give Texas Tech credit. They did a great job. But we don't rely on our shooting. There's a lot more to the game. Our guys take pride in that. We never worry about missing shots. It's fun when they go in, but we don't worry about missing them."

The Wildcats, who beat North Carolina to win the national championship in 2016, will play Kansas next weekend in San Antonio.

KANSAS 85, DUKE 81

In Omaha, Nebraska, Jayhawks guard Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk's 3-pointer forced overtime and then Malik Newman scored 13 points in the extra period as Kansas won the Midwest Region and locked up a spot in the Final Four.

Newman paced the Jayhawks (31-7) with 32 points. Trevon Duval led second-seeded Duke (29-8) with 20 points and six assists.

Kansas is in the Final Four for the 15th time and first time since 2012. They last won the national championship in 2008.
