"Thursday, I go to play golf, and who do I run into? Yoenis Cespedes! Total reality, and I don't know if he knew who I was, but I know the guys he was playing with very well, and they were asked to take Yoenis out for some golf. He looks unbelievable."
A startling, in some regards, admission from Boomer Esiason on Monday's Boomer and Gio show, as he discussed seeing the oft-injured Mets star on the links over the holiday weekend.
Much has been made about whether or not Cespedes would even be ready to play for the Mets on opening day – general manager Brodie Van Wagenen was confident he would be a DH option, at least – or how effective he could be after a nearly two-year layoff, something Moose & Maggie themselves wondered later Monday on their show.
And, in the past, Cespedes has been much maligned for some of his activities that have kept him off the field and on the injured list, including the infamous run-in with a boar, and some of the things he's done that maybe he shouldn't have while rehabbing.
It's a Cespedes circus for sure, but if you haven't already, check out Boomer's discussion about seeing Cespedes on the golf course by reloading the page and watching the video at the top. And, for a little bit more on Cespedes from a little later in the show, check out the audio below.
