Boomer & Gio: Should NFL push trade deadline back to later in season?

The trade deadline arrives at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, which led to Boomer and Gio discussing whether or not the deadline is scheduled at the most optimal time of the NFL season.

Boomer noted the existence of chatter in regards to potentially moving back the trade deadline in the future, though there are pros and cons.

"The thought process is, if you move it back, you make it easier for owners, general managers, and coaches to know where their season is," Boomer said. "If you move it to the end of November, another four weeks, by that time, everyone knows if they're gonna be tanking."

Gio noted another potential benefit of moving the deadline further into the season.

"Also, it doesn't feel like you're bringing in a hired gun," Gio said. "If the trade deadline is at the end of November, you only have him for the last month of the season and the playoffs."

As for the argument for keeping it the way it is, Boomer said the league may prefer to keep teams operating without a clearer picture of whether they should tank or not, which could make for more intrigue.

"That's why they want to do it now," Boomer said. "They want to make it a tough decision on both the acquiring team and the selling team."
