A discussion over Tom Brady's historic career turned into a dictionary debate with the Boomer & Gio crew on Friday's Moment of the Day.
Eddie Scozzare sparked the vocabulary conflict while discussing some possible demerits on Brady's resume, which now includes seven Super Bowl rings, but as Scozzare pondered potential reasons behind Brady's otherworldly run of success, he dropped a term that was new to the rest of the group.
"He had the Deflategate," Eddie began. "And he could have some sort of faustian bargain, and that's why he hasn't aged."
Wait, he could have some sort of what? Faustian bargain?
"What the hell does that mean?" Jerry Recco asked.
To Eddie's credit, a simple Google search proves that a faustian bargain is indeed a thing, with "faustian" meaning "sacrificing spiritual values for power, knowledge or material gain," but despite his efforts to explain himself, the rest of the crew wasn't having it.
"Why don't you just say he sold his soul to the devil?" Boomer said. "Just say that."
Later in the show, as the crew was discussing some Rangers hockey, Eddie missed a potential chance to chime in, and the crew immediately went back to his faustian bargain explanation.
"It means to deal with the devil!" Gio said, impersonating Eddie talking to a caller. "I've already explained that!"
Clearly, the crew doesn't approve the use of faustian, regardless of its credibility.
