Tierney: 'Glorification' of David Ortiz's path to Cooperstown is 'nauseating'

David Ortiz is officially enshrined in Cooperstown, with his decorated career being celebrated in Cooperstown this past weekend, and Brandon Tierney has had enough of it, especially while other stars are vilified for their part in the steroid era of baseball.

“The glorification of his path is nauseating,” BT said during Tuesday’s show. “It’s sickening. It’s so disingenuous by so many people.

“I got no problem with David Ortiz being in the Hall of Fame…put Pete Rose in, put Bonds in, put Clemens in, put them all in.”

Ortiz had a reported positive steroid test back in 2003, just as his Boston tenure was about to skyrocket his stature into one of the most feared hitters in the game, and Ortiz recently dismissed the report, stating the survey test likely came back positive due to an over-the-counter supplement, and pointed to the fact that he never tested positive once players started being tested for performance enhancing drugs.

Now, he is a first ballot Hall of Famer.

“Ortiz had six-seven years with the Twins, a very innocuous start,” BT said. “That’s not to say guys go to a new team or a new park and they change some mechanics…and there’s a lot of reasons why David Ortiz became a superstar and a Hall of Famer, but to elevate him above the mess, the steroid mess, it’s just disingenuous, and I can’t take it.”
