Paul Goldschmidt was named NL MVP on Thursday, beating out Cardinals teammate Nolan Arenado and Padres star Manny Machado, but with 10 names on the ballot, it was almost certain at least a few Mets would get some down-ballot love.
Indeed, four Mets were among the 19 players to receive votes: Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Edwin Diaz, and Starling Marte.
Alonso and Lindor received the most votes, the Polar Bear finishing eighth and Lindor ninth. Alonso was listed on 24 ballots and got one second-place vote (from Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, who had Goldschmidt first and Arenado third) and then 2-4-5-3-2-7 for fifth through tenth place. Lindor, meanwhile, was listed on 25 ballots, but finished seven points behind his infield mate, as his high vote was a fifth-place vote from Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and he went 2-7-6-6-3 for sixth through tenth.
Among New York's voters, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com had Alonso seventh and Lindor eighth, while Newsday's Tim Healey had the Polar Bear sixth and Frankie ninth.
Diaz and Marte were the last two of the 19 receiving votes. Marte's lone vote was a tenth-place vote from Tracy Ringolsby of InsidetheSeams.com, while Diaz received two tenth-place votes from MLB.com's Jordan Bastian and The Athletic's Trent Rosecrans – tying him with Philly's Kyle Schwarber and Colorado's Daniel Bard, who both got a single ninth-place vote, with two points.
The NL MVP announcement was made first on the MLB Network broadcast, setting the stage for one last hour of drama before MLB revealed whether Aaron Judge or Shohei Ohtani was the AL MVP.
