As the Giants get set for a pivotal game against the Commanders on Sunday, Evan doesn’t subscribe to the idea that Brian Daboll is coaching for his job, or that he should even be on the hot seat at the end of the year, no matter how bad things get for Big Blue.
However, there is a circumstance beyond Daboll’s control that could lead to his exit, and it could come in the form of Bill Belichick.
“There is a cloud hovering above the Giants facility. It’s the one thing that can keep Brian Daboll from coaching in year three,” Evan said. “Here’s the thing about Bill. He loves the New York Giants. And here’s the thing about John Mara. He loves Bill Belichick.
“I’m not telling you it’s fair or it’s right or it’s deserved. But I’m here to give you the news that the reality…the one thing that can change everything is that cloud that’s above the Giants.”
Evan believes Belichick’s time in New England could be coming to an end, and that reality coupled with his adoration of the Giants franchise dating back to his days in New York as defensive coordinator, means the potential Belichick/Giants reunion has steam.
“Bill Belichick is the greatest head coach of all time, and loves your franchise,” Evan said. “When Bill Belichick talks about the Giants, he gets emotional.”
Despite laying out that evidence, Tiki wasn’t buying it.
“The last thing anyone in this facility is thinking about is Bill Belichick,” Tiki said. “Brian Daboll has built the right culture for this team.”
