Boomer believes Brian Daboll was hoping that Daniel Jones would become more of the quarterback that he had in Buffalo, but Jones’ personality and makeup is just not the same as Josh Allen.
“The quarterback has got to be the engine,” Boomer said. “When you give a guy $41 million a year, you cannot have a quarterback back there who is afraid to throw the ball or is hesitant in any way, shape, or form.
“He’s gonna compare every quarterback he ever has to what Josh Allen was when he had him…his last three games, what you see from Josh Allen. They thought that somehow, Daniel Jones was gonna turn into what Josh Allen is in Buffalo. Same physical stature, same athleticism, but he’s a different human being. He is a different person. He doesn’t possess, remotely, the same characteristics that a Josh Allen has right now.”
Allen is a top-tier quarterback leading a Bills team that is on a roll, while Jones, even after signing his big contract, has struggled badly this season outside of one half. Despite the potential physical similarities, Boomer says Jones is far from Allen otherwise, which may be a disappointment to Daboll.
“That Josh Allen is fearless when he’s on the football field, he’s the heartbeat of the team,” Boomer said. “Daniel Jones is like walking around, and I’m like ‘Come on.’ I know when a quarterback is kind of disconnected and not playing well, and it affects the rest of the team.
“Last night was a typical Daniel Jones middling, no spirit, no fight, no type of leadership game.”
