As questions loom about whether the Giants will hit Saquon Barkley with the franchise tag yet again this offseason, Boomer says he wants to see the running back find a new home next season so he can flourish with a more talented offense.
“I hope he gets a fresh start somewhere else. I really do,” Boomer said. “Unfortunately for him and Sterling Shepard, the passing game has been nonexistent for the Giants for seven years, and they’ve been in the middle of it…The real problem is, what are the Giants doing at quarterback?”
Barkley entertained holding out last season after being hit with the franchise tag, and Boomer doesn’t blame Barkley at all for how the Giants have handled him after what the running back has done for the organization across six seasons.
“I don’t blame him. I really don’t blame him,” Boomer said. “I’d be frustrated if I were him as well.”
