Brian Daboll placed the blame squarely on his shoulders for the Giants’ 1-4 start to the season, but he also challenged his offensive line to pick up the protection after a 31-16 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon.
“We’re not doing a good enough job,” Daboll said. “It’s all on me.”
Daboll’s second season as Big Blue’s head coach is currently going considerably worse than the first, and will now have to face his former team in the mighty Bills next week. If the Giants are to have a shot, the offensive line will have to be better. One week after allowing 11 sacks, New York allowed seven on Sunday, six with Daniel Jones at quarterback.
On the sixth sack of Jones, the quarterback went down with a neck injury and did not return. While Daboll believes Jones is fine, he clearly wasn’t happy with the work of his offensive line.
“I saw him when I came in. He was sitting at his locker,” Daboll said of Jones. “I asked how he was doing, he said, ‘I’ll be OK.’
“Got hit pretty good. He’s getting hit quite a bit…You don't want that. We got to figure out a way to protect him better.”
