C-Mac was already frustrated with Brian Daboll after Sunday’s loss to the Jets, and it didn’t get any better after hearing the head coach’s explanation of the Daniel Jones timeline during Monday’s press conference.
Jones was revealed to have been cleared for contact on Sunday before kickoff, but the team had ruled him out on Friday with the neck injury that had sidelined him for the previous two games. Asked why the visit to the doctor to determine his progress was set for Sunday and not the day before, to try and get Jones into a must-win game, Daboll simply told reporters, “That’s when it was scheduled.”
That wasn’t an acceptable answer for C-Mac.
“We have to get more news that drives you nuts…Daniel Jones is now cleared for contact, and looks like he’s gonna play against the Raiders. Then it comes out that he was seen by the doctors prior to the game on Sunday,” C-Mac said. “You would think this coach, who knows that Monday is going to be a day where he is going to have to answer a million questions about why his team lost the game…and you know your quarterback was cleared for contact before the game, and yet he goes to the press conference and completely tries to pull a Belichick.
“Here’s the thing: you haven’t won anything. You had one good season, and this year has been an out-and-out disaster.”
C-Mac says Belichick can get a pass for being cryptic in press conferences, because he has earned the respect as one of the most successful coaches in league history. When a coach who hasn’t had success uses the same tactic, it is just not a good look.
“The inability to make his points clear and concise, and make it understandable to us what is going on with the quarterback is mind-numbing to me,” C-Mac said.
“When you answer like this, you better be winning football games, and not dealing with a quarterback dealing with a neck injury for the second time in three years, who you paid $40 million to.”
