The Giants will have Daniel Jones back on Sunday, and will be taking on a lowly Raiders team that just cleaned house after another frustrating loss.
Many hope that Sunday is a get-right game for Big Blue, but Evan fears Sunday’s matchup could have the opposite effect, in what he says is a fork-in-the-road game where the Giants can either turn their season around, tread water, or the least desirable option that he feels is most likely.
“Option three is losing to old friend Antonio Pierce and having his season become an unmitigated disaster, more so than it already is,” Evan said. “If I had to vote on those three options for where I think this goes, I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news. I think it goes to a dark, ugly place, you lose to the Raiders, and we’re heading towards a three-win season.”
A loss to Vegas would drop the Giants to 2-7 on the season, and would see them fall to one of the worst teams in the league, one where an interim head coach had less than a week to prepare for the game. That would sink this disastrous season to a new low, one which Evan says would start to call the current regime into question.
“If you lose a game to a football team that is dysfunctional, that decided in the middle of the year to fire their head coach and general manager…this season spirals, in that way that I fear,” Evan said. “We’re looking at a four-win season…and everything about this franchise’s direction is questioned.
“Losing this game can lead you into the road of despair, the road of familiar territory that we’ve seen the last few years with Pat Shurmur, Ben McAdoo, and Joe Judge.”
