Evan opened Friday’s show by declaring a “dark cloud” hanging over Brian Daboll and the Giants, and that cloud is shaped like Bill Belichick in his patented cut-off hoodie.
Citing Belichick’s love for the Giants organization, and a potential exit from New England, Evan believes a reunion between Big Blue and one of the most accomplished head coaches in NFL history could be in the cards.
However, there is one major caveat, based on what Evan has heard: John Mara is “pissed off” at Belichick after Belichick’s congratulatory text message intended for Daboll accidentally went to Brian Flores, which was used in Flores’ racial discrimination lawsuit against the NFL and all 32 teams, citing Belichick’s text being sent before Flores interviewed for the Giants job.
“I’ve heard…John, since that moment, is pissed off at Belichick. That may have caused some friction and a falling out,” Evan said. “I’m team Mara, by the way. John is right. That mistaken text by Bill caused a lot of issues. That information was supposed to be private.
“That’s what I’ve heard. The whole reunion with Bill and the Giants might not happen, because the Giants are pissed off at Bill.”
Still, even with that potential rift in the relationship, Evan believes a reunion could happen, due to the mutual deep-seeded affinity between the two, an affinity that could make a man as prideful as Belichick apologize to get back in the good graces of an organization he has always revered.
“The only thing I would factor in…Bill gets emotional when talking about the Giants,” Evan said. “Any chance Bill gets on the phone and says ‘John, I’m so sorry!’”
