Boomer and Gio: What kind of year will it take from Daniel Jones to remain with Giants?

Gio is convinced that this will be the last season of Daniel Jones as the Giants quarterback, and if it’s not, it would mean that the former sixth overall pick made a historic leap under a new head coach in Brian Daboll.

“The year that Daniel Jones is gonna have to have for him to remain a New York Giant has to be a top-five year in the league,” Gio said. “Anything less than that, he’s not gonna remain a Giant.”

Boomer agrees, and threw out the numbers Jones would need to put up for the new Giants regime to buy into his stock.

“They’re gonna need 10 wins, he’s gonna have to have between 4,200-4,500 yards passing, between 30 and 40 touchdown passes, his interceptions are gonna have to be 10 or less, and he can’t fumble in the pocket,” Boomer said.

“He’s also gonna have to play 17 games.”

Achieving those lofty goals seems difficult as it is, but the latter one may be the toughest for Jones, who has struggled to stay on the field for a full season. He played in only 11 games last year due to a neck injury, and now, as the new Giants leaders look to potentially move on after this season, Jones will be competing against Daboll and Joe Schoen’s previous quarterback experience in Josh Allen.

“They’re used to watching arguably the third or fourth best player in the league at the position,” Boomer said. “He’s a freaking dynamic player…that’s where they’re coming from.”
