Giants did not make contract offer to Saquon Barkley after hearing Eagles offer: Report

According to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the Giants did not make a contract offer to Saquon Barkley after he came back with the three-year deal that the Eagles offered him, as Big Blue decided it was too rich for their taste, and wished the lifelong Giant the best in his next chapter.

“There’s a notion out there that the Giants did not make an offer for Saquon Barkley,” Garafolo said on NFL Network. “That is true, but that ignores the offers they made over the last year-plus.

“The agreement recently, after they had discussions at the Scouting Combine, was ‘go out there, see what the number is out there and then bring it back to us. We’ll see about matching.’ This was too rich for the Giants. They wished him the best and said ‘Good luck in Philadelphia, we’ll see you twice a year.’”

The Giants could have placed the franchise tag on Barkley for a second straight offseason, but declined. Still, Joe Schoen expressed a desire to retain the former No. 2 overall pick and two-time Pro Bowler, but instead, he will take his talents down the Turnpike to a hated division rival.
