Brian Daboll elected to try a 47-yard field goal on 4th-and-1 instead of going for it in the second quarter, and Graham Gano missed it wide left.
It immediately resulted in fans ripping the Giants head coach for not trying for the first down and continuing a drive that had been fueled by the legs of Tyrod Taylor.
Fans called Daboll’s decision “embarrassing” and “weak,” while reporters on site opined that Daboll was “coaching scared.”
Evan Roberts said last week on Evan and Tiki that Daboll, after being known for his boldness last season, is now developing a reputation as “kind of cowardly” given his more conservative approach this season.
In the broadcast booth, Matt Ryan supported the move, noting the weather, the way the Giants defense was playing, and the weaker offense of the Jets as a motivation to get points on the board.
