On Sunday, Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka officially completed head coaching interviews with the Colts, Texans, and Panthers, all virtual, while the Colts also had an interview with defensive coordinator Wink Martindale as well.

Both coordinators have been hot commodities, but head coach Brian Daboll said that nothing would happen until at least after Saturday’s Divisional Round game, which the Giants lost 38-7 in Philadelphia.

Kafka is the seventh candidate interviewed already by Carolina, a group that includes former defensive coordinator and interim head coach Steve Wilks – who was 6-6 as the interim HC after Matt Rhule was fired – and another NFC East assistant in Eagles OC Shane Steichen. Ken Dorsey, who was promoted to OC in Buffalo after Brian Daboll left for the Giants, was also interviewed.

The Colts were one of two teams 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans canceled on to prepare instead for Sunday’s Divisional Game with Dallas, but in addition to the Giants’ coordinators, Indy has also already chatted with Dallas DC Dan Quinn, Packers Special Teams Coordinator (and former Raiders interim HC) Rich Bisaccia, Browns OC Brian Callahan, and Jeff Saturday, who took over for the fired Frank Reich mid-season and was 1-7.

Houston has already interviewed seven other candidates besides Kafka, including Ryans, both of the Eagles’ coordinators, and former Saints head coach Sean Payton.

Kafka is in his first season as a coordinator after five seasons as an assistant under Andy Reid, who was his head coach during his playing days in Philly. Martindale just finished his first season with the Giants, but was the DC in Baltimore for four seasons before that and has 18 years of NFL experience as a defensive assistant.
