Evan: Shouldn't Giants at least gauge Rob Gronkowski's interest in NFL return?

Rob Gronkowski told Kay Adams this week that the only coach he would come out of retirement for is Brian Daboll, who was Gronkowski’s tight ends coach during the prime years of his Hall of Fame career.

Gronkowski, who didn’t play at all last season, likely isn’t making an NFL return, but what if he came back to play for Daboll and Big Blue, and gave Daniel Jones another new weapon?

It’s a nice thought, but Tiki doesn’t see it happening.

“Rob Gronkowski is 34 years old…he is 714 yards away from 10,000,” Tiki said. “Eight touchdowns, that’s stealing, especially in a Giants offense that needs big bodies…I don’t think he’s gonna play again, because I know, physically, it’s a challenge to get back to it. Not that I don’t think he’s worked out, but I don’t think he has to the level he would need to be ready for the NFL.”

Tiki says Daboll and Joe Schoen likely won’t reach out to Gronkowski after his comments, but Evan believes they should at least do their due diligence, and even believes Gronkowski may have something left to give.

“Doesn’t he have to at this point?” Evan said. “You have a superstar Hall of Famer who said the only team he’ll play for is the New York Giants…nobody is saying he has to be the Hall of Famer he was eight years ago. He’s still a productive player, don’t you think?

“Imagine him and Darren Waller.”
