Joe Schoen seemed much more definitive in speaking about Daniel Jones’ future with the Giants than Saquon Barkley when talking with reporters on Monday, leaving Barkley’s potential future with the team in limbo heading into the offseason.
Gio, who believes Big Blue should let Barkley walk or franchise tag him, says that if the Giants take the first option, the Bills should be the team that pays Barkley.
“To me, the team is the Buffalo Bills,” Gio said. “I do believe after what happened to them in this Bengals game, they have to get that running game going…it has to be something better than what they’ve got.
“I have to look at their salary cap situation, but you always have to look for that team that’s desperate to get over the hump at that positon. I do believe the Bills are one of those teams.”
Gio doesn’t think it is wise to pay running backs big money, but Buffalo needs a solid running back to help complete its offense, and Gio says Barkley could help them finally take the final step to a Super Bowl.
“If somebody is going to pay Saquon, it’s gonna be a team exactly like that,” Gio said. “A team that feels like they are a player or two away.”
