Mike Kafka has been promoted to Giants assistant head coach in addition to his role as offensive coordinator, and Gio is confused as to how he earned the promotion.
“The Giants offense sucks,” Gio said. “They have been terrible, and Mike Kafka is getting his door knocked on by all these places, so much so that they have to elevate him to assistant head coach?”
Kafka was blocked from interviewing with the Seahawks, and Boomer believes the promotion is a move by Brian Daboll to keep at least one trusted coach on his staff after multiple coaches left or were let go after a six-win season.
“It’s a relationship that Brian Daboll trusts,” Boomer said. “It’s a loyal soldier to Brian Daboll, and I think that’s what Brian needs.”
Still, Boomer can’t deny the struggles of the offense under Kafka, regardless of the injuries he had to deal with (which included Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley, Andrew Thomas, and Darren Waller).
“You look at these NFL ranks for this offense,” Boomer said. “It is brutal.”
