Daniel Jones is now nearly $80 million richer, at least in guaranteed money, after signing a four-year, $160 million contract with the Giants before Tuesday’s deadline.
Gio says Jones has one man to thank for all those millions.
“He really needs to reach out to, and it better happen today, is a man by the name of Ed Donatell, the Vikings defensive coordinator who got fired after that playoff game and allowed Daniel Jones to play his best game ever,” Gio said. “That game earned an extra $10 million a year for Daniel Jones, and you cannot convince me otherwise. He played amazing in that game. Couldn’t be better.
“That playoff game, getting into the postseason and winning, and him being the reason to do so…got him $40 million a year. I think he would have made something like $30 or $32 million a year if he didn’t win that game and play that well.”
Boomer agreed with Gio, that Jones shining on the playoff stage likely increased his value significantly just before contract negotiations would take place. Jones completed 24 of 35 passes in that Big Blue victory for 301 yards and two touchdowns, while also leading the team with 78 rushing yards. Donatell had no answer for Jones, and Gio says he deserves some kind of gift basket from Jones after Tuesday’s contract agreement.
