A caller said he was “hurt” by Saquon Barkley signing with the hated Eagles, and Gio said any grown fans having that kind of response to the news need a reality check.
“I can understand if you were a child and you’re like ‘that was my favorite player and he’s not here anymore. I had his jersey, he signed an autograph for me at training camp, and now he’s an Eagle,’” Gio said. “If you’re a grown man and your emotions are hurt by Saquon Barkley going to the Eagles, this is a priority spot for you. We gotta reevaluate some things. You really do.
“You gotta get to a point where a guy leaving in free agency, when we’ve seen it a million times, you gotta let it roll off your back.”
Instead of being hurt about Barkley leaving, Gio says fans should focus on the fact that the team is in a better spot than they were before Barkley departed.
“Saquon Barkley was a running back who didn’t work out here. He was a great teammate and a great guy, but the team stunk,” Gio said.
“On paper, the Giants had a great offseason day yesterday.”
