Gio: Giants, Brian Daboll reminiscent of Todd Bowles' Jets tenure

As the Giants prepare for year three under Brian Daboll, Gio can’t help but see similarities to when a Jets head coach took over, was never given a roster good enough to compete, and was ultimately fired.

“The Giants right now are kind of on that same track as where the Jets were in that last year of Todd Bowles,” Gio said. “They tore the thing down and had Todd Bowles remain the coach with Sam Darnold as a quarterback as a rookie. They did nothing in the offseason. They were basically in a rebuild year, but Todd Bowles was supposed to win…he had no chance, and got fired.”

After a surprising 10-6 finish in his first year as Jets head coach in 2015, Bowles followed that up with three straight back-to-back seasons, finishing with a 4-12 record in 2018 where rookie Sam Darnold went 4-9. Could Daboll be coaching a rookie quarterback in 2024, and become a victim of a poorly constructed roster?

“This feels almost on a similar track,” Gio said. “Where the Giants are still in this rebuild…they’re gonna come into this year with another sub-par roster in the third year of Brian Daboll, and they might not have a shot.”
