Saquon Barkley is looking more and more like his old self, the one that won the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, and Gio says that means it’s time to trade him.

Sure, the Giants are 2-1 on the year, but reality needs to be accepted that this isn’t their year, and it’s about continuing to build for the future. That means maximizing on the value of a player like Barkley before he likely heads elsewhere in free agency after this season.

“This is why the Gants need to trade him,” Gio said. “Before the trade deadline, Nov. 1, the Giants have to trade him. It’s something they certainly have to think about.

“I don’t think they’ll do it this week or next week, but as they approach the Nov. 1 deadline, it’s something they have to seriously think about.”

Gio understands a running back with recent injury won’t bring back much in a deal, but his value likely won’t be much higher than it is right now, and Joe Schoen has to act.

“He’s an unrestricted free agent next year. To me, there is no way you sign him to a big contract if you’re the New York Giants,” Gio said.

“His value right now is back to being high…if the Giants aren’t gonna give him a contract at the end of the year and they’re sitting around and not really in a playoff conversation, they have to get something for him. Even if it’s a fourth-round pick.”
