As the Giants get ready for the Colts on Sunday, Joe Benigno says it’s going to be an extended New Year’s celebration at MetLife Stadium, no matter what.
Joe doesn’t care if it’s Matt Ryan, Nick Foles, or even Andrew Luck under center for the Colts. He says Big Blue is a lock to clinch a playoff spot on Sunday afternoon.
“That’s gonna be a party for Giants fans on Sunday, they’re gonna be celebrating a playoff spot,” Joe said during Thursday’s show. “Who saw that coming before the season started?”
Clinching a playoff berth would be another landmark for the Giants, one of the season’s biggest surprises, and in the eyes of Joe, another resume builder in Brian Daboll’s bid for Coach of the Year. But he says it is also another reason why Daniel Jones should be getting some MVP consideration when the year is over.
“Brian Daboll’s gotta be Coach of the Year, and Daniel Jones, I know he’s not gonna win the MVP, I get it, but he has to get some consideration for it with the year he’s had,” Joe said.
“You tell me a quarterback that has done more with less than Daniel Jones.”
Jones has statistically been a middle-of-the-pack quarterback this season, ranking 15th in the NFL in passing yards, 23rd in passing touchdowns, but has been among the league’s best in not turning the ball over. He has having a career year, and, most importantly, his team is surprisingly winning. For Joe, that’s enough to warrant at least some MVP consideration.
