Kayvon Thibodeaux responded to criticism surrounding a viral video that showed him sitting and staring towards the ground at the end of the Giants bench while teammates were on the other end celebrating a touchdown, and seemed to call out the fanbase for not supporting the team before they rattled off a historic comeback on Sunday.
“Every fan just wants to be part of a winning team,” Thibodeaux said. “Even early in the game our own fans are booing us and giving up on us...as soon as we start to win, everybody is cheering and everybody is excited, wants to get a jersey signed, this and that. It’s a tough situation, but you start to realize that the only people that matter are the people in the room and the people who are really here for us, is us.”
Asked for context for the video, Thibodeaux said he was meditating to “visualize” the Giants comeback, which did come to fruition in a 31-28 win over the Cardinals.
“When you play this game, you start to realize…when you’re in a situation where the fate of the game lands on one drive or situation, and the defense are the guys who are looked to to answer that, the only person I look to is God,” Thibodeaux said. “I’m sitting there, praying - I guess you could say meditating - visualizing what we’re gonna do as a team to go out there.
“Too many people wake up and want to put negativity out there. For us to come back and win a game, it’s nothing but positive. For the defense, everybody wants to be able to make that play when the time does come. I think it’s more of a visualization or meditation thing. Hopefully I don’t ever have to answer something like that in the future.”
