After Tommy DeVito was benched for Tyrod Taylor on Monday against the Eagles, Moose says DeVito was a fantastic story that fans need to be honest about what the DeVito craze really was.
“It has been a pretty cool story…but let’s be realistic here,” Moose said. “I think a lot of people have lost their way about what Tommy DeVito exactly is and what he represents for the Giants.
“DeVito, when he stepped in due to injuries to Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor, he took advantage of that opportunity. But let’s be realistic about what he accomplished and what he did. he looked good against a Washington defense whose secondary has been historically bad…they survived against the Patriots, and then he had a really good game against the Green Bay Packers. But tell me a quarterback as of late that has not. Did you watch Carolina light up that Green Bay defense in the second half, especially in the fourth quarter on Sunday?”
DeVito captured the hearts of Giants fans for weeks as the hometown kid who improbably came out of nowhere to bring back a faint pulse to the team’s playoff odds. But DeVito’s success brought about dreams of what he could become beyond this season, and Moose says it became easy to gloss over some deficiencies that could have foreshadowed Monday’s game.
“I get it. DeVito provided a distraction,” Moose said. “But let’s be realistic about what DeVito is, because I think a lot of people lost their way, because we were all starving for something to sink our teeth into in this football season when you look at both locals.”
