The Giants reportedly will not pick up Antoine Bethea's option for the 2020 season, making the 35-year-old safety a free agent.
The move saves the Giants $2.75 million against the salary cap. The Athletic's Dan Duggan was the first to report on the team's plans for Bethea on Wednesday.
Bethea signed with New York as a free agent in March 2019. He started all 16 games last season, recording one interception and a team-leading 110 tackles.
Bethea is a three-time Pro Bowler who previously played for the Colts, 49ers and Cardinals.
Safety is a major area of need now for the Giants. With Michael Thomas also a free agent, Jabrill Peppers and Sean Chandler are the only safeties listed on the team's current roster.
