Two New York Men Trying To Trademark Daniel Jones' 'Danny Dimes' Nickname

A star may have been born on Sunday night in Tampa Bay.

Daniel Jones made his first start in the NFL for the Giants, and what a start it was. Jones impressed throughout and led a game-winning drive in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. The drive was capped by the rookie's emphatic touchdown run right up the middle of the defense to give Pat Shurmur's team a lead it managed to hold onto after a late missed field goal by the Buccaneers.

Jones' legs scored his team's final points, but his passing performance was fitting of a guy who has been nicknamed "Danny Dimes."

As often seems to happen with cool, new nicknames associated with star athletes, someone other than Jones is now trying to make money off it. Two New Yorkers have filed to trademark the "Danny Dimes" nickname with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, according to records seen by Anthony Zurita of the New Jersey Record.

Christopher Lamparillo and Michael Jakab of Goshen, New York want to trademark the nickname is order to sell "Danny Dimes" merchandise. They applied for the trademark on September 17, which is the same day when Pat Shurmur first named Jones as the Giants new starting quarterback.

Jones was a big part of the Giants' comeback victory over the Buccaneers. He completed 23-36 passes for 336 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the effort.

It's unclear who first came up with the nickname, but it almost certainly wasn't Lamparillo and Jakab. Perhaps the Giants or Jones' own people will step in and fight so that he can profit off of his own nickname.

Jones and the Giants will try to build on their first win of the season when they face the Redskins on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
