Patriots reportedly claim former Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito off waivers

Tommy DeVito has reportedly found his new home.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, DeVito has been claimed by the Patriots after being cut by the Giants on Tuesday. DeVito lit it up in his final preseason game with Big Blue, but New York elected to not go with four quarterbacks, instead sticking with the trio of Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Jaxson Dart.

Ironically, DeVito’s big night in his preseason finale came against New England, as he completed 17 of 20 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns.

DeVito joins a Patriots quarterback room led by Drake Maye and and Joshua Dobbs. Per Garafolo, New England had interest in DeVito two years ago before the New Jersey native joined the Giants and took the city by storm with three straight wins after taking over for the injured Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor.

DeVito could potentially compete with Dobbs for the backup role, seemingly having a clearer run to playing time in New England than he would have with the Giants. Regardless, his brief but memorable time with Big Blue is now officially over.
