Sal: Giants have gone about building their team the wrong way
As Hard Knocks wraps up, Sal can’t help but examine the Giants offseason and believe that Joe Schoen and company have gone about building the roster the wrong way.
Rather than go after the flashy star in Malik Nabers in the draft, Sal would have liked to have seen the Giants build up the trenches after the disaster of the offensive line last season.
“If you don’t have a quarterback to get him the ball, it negates what a wide receiver can do,” Sal said. “If you don’t have the guys up front…it negates what a wide receiver can do.
“Fundamentally, I just disagree with the way the Giants went about building their team this offseason.”
The Giants did beef up the offensive line with multiple free agent signings, including Joe Runyan and Jermaine Eluemunor, but Sal will believe that the line of scrimmage has been shored up once he sees it, and thinks there were more important moves to be made.
“I know why they did it. It’s not a knock on Nabers,” Sal said. “But I would have preferred to build inside out, and I feel like the Giants got caught up in the star power and explosive playmakers…yeah, they got a playmaker, but without a quarterback or a good offensive line, it just doesn’t work for me.”
