Could Lamar Jackson really be a Giant next year? Tiki Barber has some ideas

Daniel Jones may or may not be the Giants’ quarterback of the future, which means that Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen have both free agency and the 2023 (and maybe 2024) NFL Drafts to figure out who will be the long-term guy.

Could that guy be a few hours down I-95 in a contract dispute of his own?

“There are certain things that are real, facts, and one is the Giants will have upwards of $80 million in cap space next year, so they could essentially do whatever they want,” Tiki Barber said during Monday’s Tiki & Tierney show. “And, there’s one guy who’s trying to get a big deal and is a stud…name is Lamar Jackson.”

Indeed, Jackson didn’t get the long-term deal he was looking for in Baltimore, as he felt he could continue to improve and earn more than the Ravens offered. He will become a free agent this offseason, pending the franchise tag, but the Ravens could look to trade him to a team looking to make a long-term deal…and that could be Big Blue.

“Lamar Jackson is starting to get better as a passer, you saw it in Week 1 against the Jets, and you saw his elite dual threat this week against Miami, but they lost because their defense was abysmal,” Tiki continued. “I’m starting to get the feeling he feels disrespected in Baltimore, and he shut them down at every turn with the contract situation because he wants to go somewhere else.”

That somewhere else, Tiki thinks, should be NYC, the perfect spot for his talent.

“The perfect place for him, the place that has money and is an ideal media market for a dynamic star and former MVP, is New York,” Tiki said, “and he’s got a coach that can turn him into the Josh Allen-level quarterback that is always in the MVP conversation in Brian Daboll.”

BT seemed intrigued, as Tiki recalled that a caller mentioned the possibility a few weeks ago, but as Mr. Barber said, he’s now starting to believe that “Lamar Jackson could be a New York Giant next year.”

All Tierney could do was wonder what it might be like…and give the downside, wondering how the Ravens let Jackson walk without a franchise tag.

“He wants the Deshaun Watson deal; he wants almost all guaranteed money, which the Ravens weren’t willing to give him, but I think the Giants would get close to doing that,” Tiki said.

Start salivating now, Big Blue faithful.
