Tiki Barber believes in Daniel Jones…kind of.
The Giants will soon have to decide whether or not to pick up Daniel Jones' fifth-year option, and that was a hot topic on Wednesday's Moose 7 Maggie Show based on the news of a potential neck injury he suffered Sunday:
Later, in his weekly appearance on the show, Barber was asked point blank by Maggie Gray: if you made the decisions and had to pick up Jones’ fifth-year option today, would you?
Barber’s answer was a quick yes, but with a caveat:
“The reason is that if you’re looking at the Draft, the quarterbacks are not that good. You look at the kids coming out of college – some are interesting, maybe third or fourth-round picks that might develop into usable starters down the line, but no one you’re clamoring to go up the draft board to go and get, so Daniel Jones gets the benefit of the doubt a little bit,” Barber said.
That would give the Giants one more year to perhaps find a franchise QB if Jones isn’t it…but also, Tiki says, a chance for Jones to maybe gel with whomever will be the Giants’ offensive coordinator in 2022, his third in four years:
“We know how hard that is to create consistency and a path towards success,” Barber said. “I still hold out hope for Daniel Jones because I like him, and like the potential I see; the consistency is what you worry about, but given the changes, I’m hanging on one more year, maybe even two.”
