Daniel Jones put together one of the best games of his career last weekend, throwing for two touchdowns and running for another pair in a playoff-clinching win for the Giants.
It has been a career year for Jones, who is turning it over less than any other quarterback in the league this year, holds a career-best completion percentage of 67.2 percent, has thrown 15 touchdowns against just five interceptions, and most importantly, has a 9-6-1 record.
This is all with injuries surrounding the Giants all season, and not many dynamic playmakers at the wide receiver position.
What does that mean to Tiki Barber? Get Jones some real weapons as the skill positions and more familiarity and comfort within Brian Daboll’s system, and Jones will grow into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
“If he keeps improving and growing with Daboll…and they finally get him some stud who’s gonna go snatch a 50/50 ball in the middle of the field and take it 45 yards to the house, and get a real playmaker at wide receiver,” Tiki said. “Daniel Jones can be a top 10 quarterback and maybe even knock on the door of [top] five.”
In the eyes of Tiki, Jones already has the mental makeup to be one of the best in the league at his position, and plenty of the physical attributes are there as well.
“We talked about why Zach Wilson is getting booed so vociferously and why it’s hard to like him,” Tiki said. “Daniel Jones is the 180 degree opposite of that. He’s humble, he balls when he has to, he makes the plays that he needs to, he’s a hard-ass worker…he’s a grinder.”
With that in mind, if the Giants indeed bring Jones back next season, and also bring in some top talent at wide receiver, we will likely see Jones take another massive leap next season, one that just may catapult him into the conversation of the top five quarterbacks in the NFL.
“I think he can be a top 10 quarterback consistently,” Tiki said. “And if things go really well and they get real talent around him, we’re gonna be saying that he’s one of the top five quarterbacks in the NFL.”
