Tiki said the Giants/Jets overtime game on Sunday was the “most interesting bad game” you’ll ever see, but he was left lamenting a handful of critical plays that derailed what should have been a much-needed win for Big Blue.
It began with Saquon Barkley, who Tiki says could have potentially iced the game late in the fourth quarter, but fell to the ground short of the first-down marker, when he seemingly could have gained much more yardage.
Barkley couldn’t get the first down on the next two tries, and Brian Daboll opted to go for the field goal. Graham Gano missed, and the Jets went on to tie the game.
“I don’t know if he was told to do this, but he gives himself up on first down,” Tiki said. “If he goes and scores a touchdown, game is over. If he gets a first down, game is over. It is what it is.”
Once the Jets tied the game, the Giants won the toss and elected to receive, a choice that Tiki did not like at all.
“You win the toss…and you take the ball, after your defense was balling all day?” Tiki said. “It was a series of decisions and moments from the Giants, despite being in winning position, where they gave this game away…they gave this game away in eight plays.
“I’m not upset. I’m almost resigned to the ineptitude of this team in the moments that matter. It’s discouraging, because last year, it’s what we talked about in almost every one of the Giants wins.”
