Tiki: Matters more for legacy if player stays on same team

Tiki doesn’t see the Giants and Saquon Barkley agreeing to a contract to keep the running back in New York, which he believes could ding Barkley’s legacy should he sign with another team.

For Tiki, there is value in sticking with the same franchise for life, noting LeGarrette Blount being a Super Bowl champion with multiple teams, but being forgotten about in a sense since his impact on each team wasn’t as impactful.

“When you leave, even if you go be successful somewhere, you kind of fall into the cracks of history,” Tiki said. “He was important to those Patriots and Eagles teams, but he’s in the cracks of history with those organizations.

“But if you are Saquon, and you stay here for the remainder of your career…messes around his last year, unlike me he hangs on and they win a championship and he retires, he is iconic. He can do the same thing somewhere else, he falls through the cracks. He does it here, he sits on a pedestal.”

The Giants don’t seem close to being a title contender, and the clock is ticking on Barkley’s prime, so he may never get a chance to win in New York. Still, Tiki says it’s something Barkley will have to weigh when deciding on his future.

“What is that potential value worth? That’s what he has to think about,” Tiki said. “It’s bigger than being a champion anywhere else. This is freaking New York, man.”
