The Washington Football Team lost quarterback Kyle Allen to a gruesome-looking leg injury Sunday.

Allen suffered what appears to be an injury to his left ankle when he was hit in the first quarter by the New York Giants’ Jabrill Peppers.

A cart was brought onto the field and Allen had his leg placed in an air cast. Washington turned to veteran quarterback Alex Smith, who he himself suffered a gruesome leg injury himself at FedEx Field in November 2018.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelisserro reported the initial diagnosis was “a dislocated ankle, but only a small fracture” for Allen.

An MRI is scheduled for Monday, but the initial indication is Allen “very much dodged a bullet,” according to MMQB’s Albert Breer. And early reports note Allen may not need surgery but will be out for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Allen acknowledged the crowd at FedEx Field as he was taken off the field.

Quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Washington’s first-round draft pick from 2019, is inactive Sunday for the fourth-straight game.

Washington Football tight End Logan Thomas is the team’s emergency quarterback. He played QB at Virginia Tech.
