May is mental health awareness month, and the end of this summer marks the 20th anniversary of the tragic attacks on 9/11/2001.
While Hello, My Name Is Craig is normally a show dedicated to fighting gambling addiction, Craig Carton took a bit of a detour on the Memorial Day Weekend episode, bringing in Matthew Bocchi, whose father was killed on 9/11 while working for Cantor Fitzgerald in the north tower.
Bocchi, who was in fourth grade on 9/11/01, tells Craig the story about how the obsessive hunt to find out his father's real fate - did he jump from the tower, or perish in the collapse? - brought out addictive tendencies that led him down a dangerous road.
That road also led Bocchi to write his book, Sway, which details losing his father on 9/11, his battles with mental health, addiction, and abuse, and how he is doing these days.
Take a listen to the pre-Memorial Day episode of Hello, My Name is Craig, and remember: if you are struggling with mental health, addiction, or any other dangerous circumstance, help is always just a phone call away.
